Ireland's Memorial Records 1914–1918
Ireland's Memorial Records (IMR), or to give it its full title, - Ireland's Memorial Records 1914–1918, contains the names of Irishmen who fell in the First World War 1914–1918, compiled by the Committee of the Irish National War Memorial. The book has decorative borders by Harry Clarke and is an incredible record of the service of men from the island of Ireland during the First World War.
Published in 8 volumes in 1923 by the Committee of the Irish National War Memorial the work seeks to ‘perpetuate the names and personalities of over 49,400 Irishmen who fell in the Great War’. Only one hundred sets of this unique publication were produced at the time.
The borders were designed by the artist, engraver and stain-glass window designer Harry Clarke. Combined with the records of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission website, and other military sources such as medal records, they help to build up a picture of the family members who served during the War.
The names of soldiers who served in the Yorkshire Regiment, and who can be found in this book, are shown below. Also, there are soldiers who were formerly in the Yorkshire Regiment but who then served in Irish regiments who are commemorated in the book.
(Note : Not all of the Yorkshire Regiment soldiers whose names appear in memorials in Eire are found in this book.)
